Eco Fun: Making Seed Bombs
Carbon dioxide is the second most abundant greenhouse gas. The trees, grasses, flowers have the power to extract carbon dioxide from the air.
Many spaces in big cities that are bare could be covered with native grasses or flowers. Make seed bombs with your kids and green up these spaces.
Here are the materials you will need:
4 parts clay powder
2 part compost
1 part native flower and grasses seeds
Water
Mixing bowl
Old newspapers
And Now What?
Source seeds of native grasses and flowers. It is easier for native plants to sprout and thrive in the local environment. Native plants are used to the temperatures, rain levels, and sun exposure of your area.
Put all the dry ingredients in a big mixing bowl, or in several smaller ones. Let the kids mix it well.
Slowly add water and have the kids mix until you get a sticky texture.
Help the children form small firm balls.
Line them all in the newspaper on a window. Ask the kids to count how many seed bombs they made. To practice more math, use our free eco-friendly math worksheets!
Let the seed bombs dry until the next day.
Explain that the seed bombs should be thrown in areas with permission. Their backyard, schoolyard, or a neighbor house.
