Eco Fun: Making a Newspaper Bag
Paper is one of the materials that are most recycled. 66% of used paper gets recycled every year, but there’s still room for improvement.
Sometimes, we can reuse it before we recycle it! Each additional use lowers its total carbon footprint.
To make something easy with the kids, let’s create a simple grocery bags.
You will need simple materials:
Newspapers
Scissors
Tape or glue
And Now What?
Ask the kids to gather some newspapers.
Take one sheet of the newspaper and fold it in half to make a sturdier bag (just like when the newspaper is closed).
Use the tape to seal the open sides, so it can't open anymore.
Fold in half again, and tape the ends on one side tightly together to make a “circular” shape.
Fold one of the open bottoms (make it around an inch), tape it. Fold again and tape it.
You just made a very simple bag for herbs, produce, small items. These bags come in handy in zero-waste stores to weight nuts, seeds, dried fruit, and other groceries.
