Eco Fun: Making Play Dough
Making play dough is easy and inexpensive. And your dough will not contain any harmful chemicals. Make enough play dough so that kids can create our Eco-Hero bear Ge from it. Ge is the main character of our coloring worksheets, and he is present in all our eBooks and resources.
Here are materials for 1 ball of play dough:
1 cup flour (any kind)
1 cup water
1/2 cup salt
1 tbsp. cooking oil
1/2 tbsp. cream of tartar (optional)
1 tsp coloring powder (turmeric for yellow, spirulina for green, cocoa powder for brown, hibiscus or beetroot powder for red)
Mixing bowls
And Now What?
Mix the flour, salt, and cream of tartar in a bowl.
Mix the water, oil, and selected coloring in another bowl.
Pour the liquid mixture slowly to the dry ingredients while kids are mixing it with their hands. Ask them to knead the dough thoroughly.
If the mix is too sticky, add more flour. If it doesn’t lump well, add more water. Adjust the ingredients according to the texture.
Use different colors, make as many balls as needed.
Have the kids create eco-hero bear Ge.
Store the dough in an airtight container to keep well.
