Let's Have a Green October!
October comes with beautiful colors, but we can still “green” this colorful month and be eco-friendlier.
At home, try to make your or your kids’ Halloween costumes by reusing old clothes. Clothes have quite a big impact on our environment, and not buying new ones to only use once will be very helpful.
In the garden, an easy and helpful thing to do is to compost the leaves that fall. Don’t throw them in the garbage; compost them and, once ready, use them to naturally enrich the soil of your garden.
At school, to decorate with the kids, buy pumpkins from the local farms, not from the grocery store. They are cheaper, safer and much better for the environment.
At work, use your reusable mug for that hot tea, coffee or hot cider we all love so much in the fall. Those cozy feelings will come accompanied by feel-good feelings!
Did you know?
20% of industrial water pollution comes from textile treatment and dying used in the clothing industry.
It takes 2,700 liters (713 gallons) of water to make a single t-shirt.
Shredding the leaves before putting them in the composting bins will speed up the composting process.
We produce more than 1 billion pounds of pumpkin in the US.
Pumpkins travel on average 1,500 from the farm to your decorating table, if you buy from your grocery store.
Apple cider can help improve digestion, fight cancer and protect against diabetes.
Reusable mugs take more energy to produce, but they cost the environment less in the end, as the same cup is used so many times.
